The Chicago Bears are without question excited for next season, especially after seeing the way that quarterback Jay Cutler played. He played much better than in years past, but what grade does he get for the 2015 NFL season that he put together?
Cutler had been talked about a lot in the rumor mill as a possible trade piece for the Bears. They have reportedly tried to trade him more than once, but could never get any team to give up anything of value. His play this past season could very well take him off the trade block and given at least one more season to prove that he is capable of putting up consistent numbers.
Throughout the 2015 season, Cutler ended up completing 64.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,659 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He did end up missing one game due to injury, but was more durable than he has been during the majority of his Bears' career.
At 32 years old, it was finally the breakthrough that the Bears were hoping to see when they originally acquired him from the Denver Broncos.
There has been no doubt that Cutler has the arm to be a very special NFL quarterback. He has excellent arm strength and his accuracy isn't bad either. His main issue has been turnovers during clutch situations and that has completely destroyed his appearance to the rest of the league.
Adam Gase was the offensive coordinator during the 2015 season. He has always done an excellent job of unlocking potential in quarterbacks, but he is on to his next task with the Miami Dolphins. That could hurt Cutler, but it can't take anything away from what he did this season.
Looking back on the 2015 season, Cutler has to be given full credit for the year that he had.
Grading his season is easier said than done, especially with the team as a whole struggling the way they did. Cutler had a great individual season and deserves a good grade for that fact.
