The Cleveland Browns hired Hue Jackson to be their new head coach and he is already talking about the needs that his football team has. He made it clear that, "it's my opinion we need a quarterback" during a recent interview.
Johnny Manziel was the starting quarterback throughout a portion of the 2015 NFL season, while Josh McCown and Austin Davis both received starts as well. Jackson has made it clear that he wants absolutely nothing to do with Manziel moving forward. That is likely a good decision, as Manziel has been struggling to keep his nose clean off-the-field throughout his career.
Cleveland currently holds the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and there is a good chance that they will get their new quarterback with that pick.
"If there is a quarterback at No. 2 that is a best fit for our team, we need to go get him," Jackson said. "It's my opinion we need a quarterback."
Jared Goff is one player that many have been mock drafting to the Browns. He is widely considered to be the top NFL ready quarterback in the 2016 draft class. Cleveland would be very wise to take him and it certainly appears that he has the potential to become a star at the next level.
Throughout the 2015 college football season with the California Golden Bears, Goff put up big numbers. He completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 4,719 yards, 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Goff had one game where he threw five interceptions, which shows just how dominant he was during the rest of the season.
Paxton Lynch could be another option for the Browns with the No. 2 overall pick, although he isn't close to as ready as Goff is to make an impact at the NFL next season.
Expect to see Cleveland go after a quarterback this offseason, especially now that Jackson is very adamant about needing a new starter.
