New Orleans Saints Could Try to Acquire QB Robert Griffin III from Washington Redskins

According to a recent report from Bleacher Report, the New Orleans Saints could try to acquire quarterback Robert Griffin III from the Washington Redskins this coming offseason.

The report was based off of the belief from Ian Rapoport that there are four teams interested in acquiring Griffin. New Orleans doesn't make a ton of sense unless they are going to sit him behind Drew Brees for a year to mentor him as the future starting quarterback. Sean Payton is likely intrigued by Griffin, which is another reason that the Saints could end up being interested.

Griffin has had a bust of an NFL career and needs a fresh start to have any chance at turning things around. Heading to a place like New Orleans would be much more stable than the situation he has been in with the Redskins throughout his career.

Assuming Payton does remain the coach, it would be a breath of fresh air for Griffin to have a coach that doesn't go out of his way to call out his players in the media just because he doesn't like them.

New Orleans likely wouldn't have to give up too much value to bring Griffin on board. Whether the Redskins allow Griffin to walk or keep him around and try to trade him is the only question. One way or another, Griffin will be out of Washington for the 2016 season.

Throughout his 37 NFL career games, Griffin has completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 8,097 yards, 40 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He certainly hasn't been a terrible quarterback, but injuries have made him unreliable throughout the majority of his career. Griffin has also picked up 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

At just 25 years of age, Griffin still has plenty of time to turn his career around. Sticking around in Washington isn't an option though for him at this point in time.

Expect to hear more rumors about Griffin as the offseason continues to draw closer and don't be surprised if the Saints are connected to him more.
