Dez Bryant has had a terrible season so far this year for the Dallas Cowboys. He has suffered with a foot injury, but rumors are beginning to swirl asking whether or not the Cowboys can still rely on Bryant as a No. 1 wide receiver moving forward.
There are major reasons to be concerned about whether Bryant can be the Cowboys' superstar like he was over the past couple of seasons.
Coming off of a broken foot is never easy for a wide receiver that relies on athleticism and explosiveness. It has been obvious since he returned from the injury that he does not have the same ability that he had before. Not having Tony Romo under center throwing him the football has been another big issue, but it certainly hasn't been the only one.
Throughout the eight games that Bryant has played in this season, he has caught just 27 passes for 351 yards and two touchdowns. Perhaps his most embarrassing outing was this past week against the Green Bay Packers in a huge conference game, in which he caught just one pass for nine yards. That game included a dropped pass in the end zone that ended up being an interception.
At 27 years old, this injury seems to have set Bryant back in a very serious way.
Can he turn things back around and be the superstar No. 1 receiver that Dallas envisioned him continuing to be when they gave him a massive contract? Absolutely. Will he? It all depends on how he attacks rehab this coming offseason and whether he gets his focus back.
There have been many issues this season since he came back from the injury where he has missed out on easy plays. Bryant has to figure out how to get back to the comfort level and confidence that he played with last season.
Expect to see him bounce back next season for the Cowboys and get back to putting up superstar production.
