Green Bay Packers Rumors: Could the Packers Move on from RB Eddie Lacy Following 2015 Season?

Eddie Lacy has been struggling in a big way this season with the Green Bay Packers and rumors are beginning to fly that the Packers could move on from their running back following the 2015 NFL season.

After recording two straight 100-yard games, Lacy was benched from his starting job once again in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions due to showing up late for curfew. Green Bay is very concerned about him off-the-field and there are major question marks about whether he is truly their long-term running back.

Green Bay is worried enough that they reportedly brought in free agent running back Montee Ball for a workout.

Throughout the 2015 NFL season to this point in time, Lacy has carried the football 127 times for 517 yards and two touchdowns. He has also caught 16 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown this season. Lacy has been slowly improving over the last couple of seasons with the Packers and unfortunately has not made the same type of progress this season.

Looking ahead at the upcoming offseason, could there be a chance that Green Bay would consider moving on from Lacy and moving forward with a different running back?

There are going to be quite a few talented running backs in the 2016 NFL Draft and there will also be a few in free agency. One name that would be intriguing for the Packers to consider signing is Chicago Bears impending free agent running back Matt Forte. He may or may not end up reaching the market, although the Bears do feel very comfortable with Jeremy Langford.

At 25 years old, Lacy still has a long time left to figure things out and reach his full potential. He can't afford to waste anymore time, however, if he wants to have any chance at reaching that full potential with the Packers.

Answering the question is very easy, which is obviously that the Packers could definitely move on without Lacy.

Ted Thompson and the Packers have not been scared to move on from talented players due to problems off-the-field and lack of production on-the-field. Lacy may have the talent to become a superstar, but if he doesn't start showing that potential he won't be around too much longer. Getting rid of him this offseason would not be the likeliest decision for Green Bay, but it can't be written off either.

Expect to hear rumors continue swirling about Lacy and the Packers moving forward as long as he continues struggling.
