The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a final score of 51-16 this week. Following that embarrassing loss, what five reasons can be given as to why they will miss the NFL Playoffs?
1. Andrew Luck Won't Be Able to Come Back at 100 Percent
There is no question that the Colts will go through a bit of trouble when Andrew Luck returns to to the field. He is coming off of a serious injury and there are going to be some signs of rust after he missed a few weeks. Matt Hasselbeck has played well, but it is obvious that the Colts can't win unless they have a healthy Luck on the field leading the way.
2. Lack of Consistent Defensive Secondary
One of the big issues for the Colts over the past few seasons has been the inconsistent play of their defensive secondary. Opposing teams are able to do too much against them through the air and that has definitely been the case once again this season. Indianapolis has to figure out how to fix the issues, but it might be too late at this point in the season.
3. Frank Gore and the Ground Game Aren't Consistent
Frank Gore is already beat up this season and that has become a major concern for the Colts. He has had a few games where he broke through with huge performances, but those performances aren't consistent. Indianapolis will have to figure out how to have a consistent ground game if they want to turn things around and end up in the playoffs.
4. Lack of Coaching
Pep Hamilton was the first coaching domino to be fired and the Colts have more cleaning up to do after this season. Chuck Pagano is one of the worst head coaches in the NFL at preparing game plans and it has shown time and time again this season. Bringing in a new head coach and a new staff would be in the Colts' best interest moving forward.
5. Feeling of Uncertainty and Pressure in the Organization
There is no denying that the Colts have a lot of pressure on their shoulders this season. They were crowned the favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this season by many media members, but obviously that hasn't looked to be the case this year. That feeling of pressure and uncertainty is dangerous and can cause doubt moving forward.
