2016 NFL Draft: Houston Texans, California Golden Bears QB Jared Goff Make Perfect Sense

The Houston Texans are entering the 2016 NFL Draft with many needs, but one of them is at the quarterback position. California Golden Bears QB Jared Goff would make perfect sense and would be a huge pickup long-term for the Texans.

Goff is widely viewed as the most NFL ready quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft class. Paxton Lynch is normally viewed as the quarterback with the most potential in the draft class. Houston needs to bring in a quarterback this offseason to take the next step, which makes Goff the better fit out of the two players.

Throughout the course of the 2015 college football season, Goff put up huge numbers for the Golden Bears. He completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 4,719 yards, 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Goff looked in control of the game for all but one game, in which he threw five of his 13 interceptions.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Goff is the ideal size for a quarterback coming into the NFL.

Why should the Texans take Goff ahead of any other player at another position? Brian Hoyer may have been solid this season, but just look at how poorly the offense played against Kansas City in the playoffs.

There is no doubt that the NFL is an offensive league now, although excellent defense to go along with a quality offense can win Super Bowls. Hoyer is not the type of quarterback that is going to lead an offense to putting up enough production to win a Super Bowl. Goff has a superstar caliber arm and the end of his potential hasn't even been seen yet.

Just looking at the field work that Goff showed in college gives scouts and front offices reason to believe that Goff can immediately step in and put up enough production to lead a team into the postseason.

Houston already has their defense built well with J.J. Watt leading the way. They have a lot of talent on that side of the football and don't need to address it with a first-round pick. If the Texans do want to get Goff, they will have to trade up in order to make that happen.

Assuming they did look into trading up, the asking price could end up being steep. That means that the Texans would have to determine that adding a talent like Goff is worth giving up a first-round pick to go along with another player or pick with value. It is certainly worth it, but the front office has to come to that decision as well.

It will be very intriguing to see what the Texans decide to do in the draft, but Goff would be a perfect pickup for them. Houston is headed in the right direction and they need to make sure that they continue that trend this coming offseason by making the right moves.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the Texans this offseason leading up to the draft and don't be surprised if Goff is a name that is attached to them quite often.
