Chicago Bears Must Pursue Safety Eric Berry in 2016 NFL Free Agency

The Chicago Bears have their focus set on improving their roster this coming offseason. Rumors are beginning to fly, but the Bears must pursue star free agent safety Eric Berry in 2016 NFL Free Agency.

One area that the Bears do need help at is in the secondary and Berry is one of the best safeties in the league. Adding him to the team would be a huge piece to the puzzle and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio would be ecstatic to have him. Chicago has to be willing to spend money this offseason if they want to compete in the NFC North next season.

Berry is going to have a decently expensive price tag on him, but it would be money well spent for the Bears.

Throughout the course of the 2015 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Berry put together a very impressive season after taking a lot of time off to battle cancer. He ended up compiling 61 tackles to go along with two interceptions and 10 defensed passes. Adding that type of a playmaker in the secondary would be a massive pickup for the Bears.

Not only is he an excellent player individually, he is also a very good leader. Chicago hasn't had a major leader on their defense since Brian Urlacher. Charles Tillman was a leader, but they haven't had one like Berry could be in a long time.

Clyde Speller of Rant Sports opined that the Bears should look into signing as well as a top priority.

There are plenty of other players that could help make a difference for the Bears as well on the free agency market. While that is a fact, there are no players at the safety position that are as capable of being a massive addition like Berry could become for Chicago.

All of that being said, the Bears are going to be mentioned in rumors early and often this offseason. They have set themselves up nicely with a lot of money to spend and they aren't going to be shy about trying to get some top talent to Chicago.

Expect to hear them connected to Berry when free agency opens up and don't be surprised to see him at the very least take a visit to Chicago to see what they have to offer.
