The Green Bay Packers rumors are beginning to swirl now that they have been eliminated from the playoffs. One of the latest rumors is that the Packers could move on from Eddie Lacy in the 2016 NFL offseason.
According to a report from Bleacher Report, Lacy's future is very much in doubt with the Packers.
Lacy played the entire 2015 NFL season at a weight that simply wasn't healthy for a running back. He was unable to give the Packers the type of speed and power that they had become used to over the first couple seasons of his career. Mike McCarthy also made it clear that the team is not happy with the way that the played the season.
"Eddie has a lot of work to do," McCarthy said. "I'm stating the obvious. His offseason was not what it should be, and he never recovered from it. He cannot play at the weight he did this year."
Throughout the 15 games that Lacy played this season, he put up very disappointing numbers. He carried the football 187 times for 758 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers round out to being 4.1 yards per carry, but he was unable to shoulder his part of the offensive load.
At 25 years old, Lacy still has plenty of time to turn his career around. He has to attack the gym this offseason and drop quite a bit of weight, while also improving his speed and strength.
Green Bay's offense was a major disappointment this season and Lacy led the way in that category.
Looking ahead to the 2016 NFL season, the Packers have to figure out how to get their running game back on track. Jordy Nelson will be back to boost the aerial attack, but Aaron Rodgers needs someone to step up on the ground. There are players in free agency and the draft that they could bring in to help, but Lacy getting back on track would be the best thing that could happen.
Expect to hear plenty of news about Lacy and the Packers this coming offseason. It will be a hot topic and Lacy has to take things seriously or he will lose his job.
