Brock Osweiler is likely to hit 2016 NFL free agency with the Denver Broncos expected to use their franchise tag on Von Miller. The Los Angeles Rams must try to sign the quarterback this offseason to be their long-term answer at the position.
Why would Osweiler leave the Broncos after the promise that he showed this season? Well, there are multiple reasons as to why he would consider the option.
First of all, they took the starting job away from him in the middle of a great season. Giving the job back to Peyton Manning was likely the right choice, but that doesn't mean he has to be happy with it. He wanted to start and his play had shown that he was more than capable of leading the Broncos into the postseason.
Secondly, his value is at an all-time high and another team might be more likely to give him a bigger deal.
Throughout the course of the 2015 NFL season, Osweiler ended up recording big all-around numbers. He completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,967 yards, 10 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Manning threw 17 interceptions throughout the regular season, which shows that Osweiler was actually having a better year than Manning even when they replaced him.
At just 25 years of age, Osweiler still has his whole career ahead of him. He would be the first quarterback to start for the Rams in their return to L.A. and could be their starter for the rest of his career depending on how things worked out.
That being said, the Rams aren't going to be the only team interested in Osweiler. He is going to have a long list of suitors, including the Broncos. Osweiler may end up returning to try and make a run at another Super Bowl win, but that is far from a guarantee.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Osweiler's name and don't be surprised if the Rams at least show interest in him.
