Baltimore Orioles Rumors: Could the Orioles Pursue a Prince Fielder Trade in MLB Offseason?

Rumors are beginning to fly about the Baltimore Orioles in MLB offseason action. One particular rumor brings up the question, could the Orioles pursue a Prince Fielder trade with the Texas Rangers this offseason?

According to Karl Buscheck of Bleacher Report, the Orioles are a logical trade destination for Fielder. There aren't many teams that would want to bring on the type of contract that Fielder has, but with the Chris Davis talks breaking down there could be a chance that Baltimore would be interested. He would certainly be a nice pickup for them assuming he could stay healthy.

There are no reports as to why the Orioles abruptly pulled back their contract offer to Davis. He is likely to sign elsewhere now that they have made it clear that they don't plan to pay him the type of money he wants.

Last season with the Rangers, Fielder ended up playing in 158 games. He compiled a .305 batting average to go along with 23 home runs and 98 RBI's. Those numbers are not bad at all and would look very nice in the Orioles' lineup if they were to acquire him.

Whether the Rangers are seriously interested in trading Fielder or not is another question. Baltimore would have to give up something of value to force the Rangers to consider moving him. That being said, at 31 years old there is a chance that Texas would be open to moving him simply to get something of value back in return.

Fielder is a great leader as well in the clubhouse, which is something that would be of value for Baltimore. Losing Davis isn't going to be easy, but replacing him with Fielder would make a lot of sense for the Orioles. Depending on how much the asking price would be, Baltimore would be wise to check in and consider a trade for the veteran slugger.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors come out in the MLB hot stove over the next few weeks as the offseason continues moving forward.
