Baltimore Orioles Rumors: Yasiel Puig Could Be a Potential MLB Offseason Trade Target?

Yasiel Puig is going to hear his name mentioned in trade rumors throughout the entire MLB offseason this year. According to some of those rumors, the Baltimore Orioles could make him a potential trade target this offseason.

According to ESPN Sweet Spot blogger David Schoenfield, the Orioles are one of the top five landing spots for him around the entire league. They were ranked as the No. 5 team that could use him and could look to acquire him. There is no guarantee that the Los Angeles Dodgers will trade him, but they certainly could look to deal him for some value.

Depending on what that value is expected to be by the Dodgers, the Orioles would likely be very intrigued by the option of bringing a talent like Puig on board.

Outside of Adam Jones, Baltimore does not have much talent in their outfield. Acquiring a piece like Puig would give them a very solid all-around bat when he's on, but also a very strong arm in the outfield from a defensive standpoint.

During the 2015 MLB season with the Dodgers, Puig ended up playing in just 79 games. He was in Don Mattingly's dog house for the majority of the season, although not every in L.A. agreed with that decision. Throughout the season, he ended up compiling a .255 batting average to go along with 11 home runs and 38 RBI's.

Those numbers prove that he is capable of putting up production when he is on-the-field, although there have been some consistency issues throughout his young career as well.

Acquiring a piece like Puig won't be cheap for any team that decides to pick him up, but would be well worth the risk. He has plenty of potential left to work his way into and has even more time to do it. Puig is just 24 years old and has a good 13 or 14 season left before he slows down too much.

Los Angeles simply isn't a fit for him anymore and both siders need to mutually agree to move on.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors come out about the Dodgers and Puig over the next couple of weeks. Baltimore would be wise to check in and see what it would take to acquire him and he would be a huge addition for them long-term.
