The Boston Red Sox are heading into an offseason with lots of potential changes. Hanley Ramirez is an intriguing option on the trade market and could be available for the right price. Could Ramirez be available in MLB trade talks with his name already being mentioned in rumors?
Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report listed Ramirez as a potential trade candidate this offseason, which adds a bit more intrigue to this question.
Coming off of a disappointing first season with the Red Sox, there is legitimate concern about where he could fit with Boston next year. Boston needs to bring in more talent to help turn things around after their terrible season last year.
During the 2015 season with the Red Sox, Ramirez ended up compiling a .249 batting average to go along with 19 home runs and 53 RBI's. It was a down season for him, but he still has some value on the trade market. Boston would be wise to listen to offers and try to push him to other teams in need of some infield help.
There are plenty of teams that would be willing to give up some prospects or potentially pitching help. Boston could use both of those things in a return for Ramirez.
At 31 years old, Ramirez still has a few good years of baseball left in him. He wouldn't be even close to a one-year rental and if he can get back to playing to his full potential he will be a dangerous option at the plate. Ramirez could very well end up staying in Boston, but that is far from being a sure thing.
Rumors are going to be swirling in a big way over the next couple of weeks and teams are going to be pursuing quite a few different trades. That is the best part of the offseason and Ramirez is going to see his name mentioned in trade talks.
Expect to hear the hot stove pick up in the near future and Boston is going to be very busy.
