The Chicago Cubs are looking to make a splash in 2015 MLB Free Agency this offseason and reportedly have their eye on a couple pitchers in particular. David Price is one, but the Chicago Cubs will pursue Zack Greinke in free agency as well.
According to Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago, the Cubs are intrigued by the idea of signing Greinke.
He was one of the most dominant pitchers throughout the 2015 season and there is no question that he has the talent to be an ace each and every season. Adding a piece like him to go alongside of Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester would be exactly what the Cubs need to take the next step in 2016.
Throughout the 2015 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Greinke ended up having a huge and historical season. He compiled a 19-3 record to go along with an impressive 1.66 ERA. Those numbers show why he is going to receive a massive contract this offseason and why a team like the Cubs should strongly consider paying him that type of money.
At 32 years old, Greinke still has quite a bit of pitching left at a superstar level and would be worth a six to seven-year contract.
In addition to the Cubs, there are going to be quite a few other teams showing interest in signing Greinke. The Dodgers would like to bring him back and the San Francisco Giants have been being mentioned as a potential landing spot for him as well. Outside of those two teams, there are going to be others that emerge throughout the free agency process.
Chicago is one of the top landing spots for Greinke and he would be wise to pursue a deal with the Cubs if they come to him with an offer. Theo Epstein is going to be very aggressive this offseason in free agency as the Cubs are just a piece or two away from making a run into the World Series.
Greinke might very well be that piece for them and excitement should be building on the north side of Chicago with the Cubs finally being aggressive and looking to land one of the top free agents on the market.
What do you guys think about a potential Greinke to Chicago deal? Would he be the missing piece that the Cubs need?
