MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox Could Sign Zack Greinke in 2015 MLB Free Agency

The Boston Red Sox are looking to spend big money this offseason to get their franchise back on track. According to recent MLB rumors, the Red Sox could sign Zack Greinke in 2015 MLB Free Agency this offseason.

Greinke is by far the No. 1 starting pitcher in baseball and is going to have many teams aggressively pursuing him with massive contract offers. Boston has quite a bit of money to spend and has always been one of the top free agency landing spots for big names. They don't have a terrible all-around roster, but adding an ace pitcher is the top priority for them.

Kyle Franzoni of FanSided.com listed the Red Sox as one of the potential landing spots for Greinke and they do make a lot of sense for him.

Boston's starting rotation left a lot to be desired and finished the season with a rough 4.26 ERA as a combined unit. That number is never going to get the job done and is a big reason that the Red Sox struggled so badly throughout the season.

There are going to be a ton of teams pursuing Greinke this offseason and the Red Sox may get into a bidding war with a couple other teams. He was a big reason that the Los Angeles Dodgers made it into the postseason, although they didn't make it past the New York Mets in the NLDS. Perhaps their lack of success in the postseason will drive Greinke out of Los Angeles.

Many have expected him to re-sign with the Dodgers this offseason, but that may very well not end up happening.

Throughout the 2015 season with the Dodgers, Greinke compiled an impressive 19-3 record to go along with an even more impressive 1.66 ERA and a 5.00 K/BB ratio. Those numbers show why he is going to receive a mega contract this offseason and why he is expected to be a franchise changing pickup for whoever gets him. Los Angeles still could re-sign him, but that is far from a sure thing.

Expect to hear the Red Sox throw their name in the running for quite a few different free agents. They do not want to suffer through another long season like this year was and would be more than happy to spend money to bring in the talent to turn things around and get themselves back into contention.
