Chicago Cubs Rumors: Cubs Could Pursue Trade for Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez

After making the big moves to sign both John Lackey and Ben Zobrist, the Chicago Cubs rumors are beginning to fly about their next move. According to a report from Bruce Levine, the Cubs could look to pursue a trade for Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.

Bringing in a piece like Gonzalez would be an absolutely huge pickup for the Cubs and would give them the type of pop that they need. He would also come at a reasonable price as well.

Gonzalez is known as one of the best power hitters in baseball and showed that at the end of the 2015 MLB season. He was linked to the Cubs at the trade deadline, but the Rockies decided not to move him. Theo Epstein has plenty of other options in their outfield, but Gonzalez could be one of the more intriguing pickups.

During the 2015 season with the Rockies, Gonzalez ended up compiling a .271 batting average to go along with 40 home runs and 97 RBI's.

Adding that type of production into the star-studded Cubs' lineup would make them an even more dangerous. Depending on what type of price tag the Rockies would be asking for in return for Gonzalez, he could be the best option available. Chicago has some money to spend and a lot more talent to trade should they choose to do so.

Jason Heyward appears to be one of their other options and signing the free agent outfielder has been a dream of Epstein's. He has the money to make a move for the 26-year-old outfielder, but there are plenty of other teams that want to sign him as well. Alex Gordon is another name that has been mentioned, but Gonzalez would definitely be a better option for the Cubs.

At just 30 years old, Gonzalez would fit perfectly into what the Cubs would want him to be in the future.

One thing that adds value to him is the fact that Gonzalez is under contract through the 2017 season. He would be a huge piece for the Cubs over the next two seasons and could be re-signed at some point in the future as well. That may be something that moves him up the wishlist for the Cubs.

Expect to hear plenty more Cubs rumors come out over the next few days and for Gonzalez to be a name that comes up quite often.
