WCW Nitro Thoughts: Frenemy Storyline Between AJ Lee and Paige Stolen From Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage 1996 Feud? Lesbian Twist Takes on New Meaning [OPINION]

As I comb through old episodes of WCW Monday Nitro in the WWE Network vaults, some thoughts occur to me. Some of them very obvious, and others may be a stretch of my own imagination. After all, the mind craves order, and so we tend to see similarities between objects or systems in close proximity. With that disclaimer firmly planted, I have a new thought about AJ Lee and Paige's frenemy storyline. It occurs to many that WWE Creative might have stolen this angle from their own vault- the 1996 quasi-feud between Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man Randy Savage. Although that does possibly give the lesbian twist a new meaning.

    As E! reality series Total Divas enters its third season, I figured I would give it a try. Starting from the beginning on WWE Network, I watched season one in about two days. It's no surprise that a reality show featuring the dramatic exploits of beautiful women is successful. What is shocking is that when I watched the show, I actually liked it. Sure, it's a typical reality show in many ways, but it helped me identify with characters that I'm already invested in on an even deeper level. In between the vaguely contrived drama and the massively edited storylines, Total Divas manages to highlight several talented female wrestlers such as Natalya Hart, Naoimi and Cameron of the Funkadactyls and The Bella Twins, Nikki and Brie Bella.

This obscure footage reveals a little known angle featuring "Dark Side Hogan" dressed in all black, which precedes the advent of the nWo by 9 months!
