The Michigan Wolverines will host the No. 22 ranked BYU Cougars in NCAA Week 3 action. What should fans expect a reasonable final score prediction to be?
Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines started their season with a loss on the road against the Utah Utes, but have backed that loss up with two straight wins. They have looked like a much more fundamental football team which is exactly what was expected from them when Harbaugh was originally hired. It is obvious that he has coached his team to play the game the right way, which will result in the Michigan football program coming back.
BYU has come through with two big victories against the Nebraska and Boise State and they are very deserving of the ranking that they have received. The Cougars have to be sure not to underestimate the Wolverines this afternoon. Michigan is a very dangerous football team and while BYU is better on paper they could easily get upset if they don't come prepared.
Needless to say, this is a huge game for both programs, especially Michigan as they look to prove themselves to the rest of the nation that had marked them off this past offseason.
If the Wolverines are going to come out on top in this game, they are going to need a steady dose of De'Veon Smith. He has been a huge part of the Michigan offense this season and has been one of the best running backs in the nation throughout the season so far. Smith will be fed the football early and often, which will be a major key for the Wolverines.
Jake Rudock will also have to step up and make plays without turning the football over. He has shown the ability to do that over the past couple of weeks and there is no question that he can continue doing so this week against a tough BYU defense. Harbaugh has 100 percent trust in Rudock, which should lead the fans to have trust in him as well.
As for BYU, they have to get a big game on the ground from Adam Hine. He put up big numbers last week against UCLA and will be asked to carry a heavy load once again this year.
Tanner Mangum has quite a few question marks surrounding his game, but has to be a top-notch game manager for the Cougars. Michigan doesn't have an amazing defense, but they have players capable of making plays against a sub-par quarterback. If Mangum gets sloppy, the Wolverines will make him pay.
All of that being said, Michigan is going to be the pick to win this game for us here at Classicalite this afternoon. It is a tough choice between these two quality fooball teams, but Harbaugh coaching the Wolverines at home gives Michigan an advantage.
