The Detroit Lions will welcome the Denver Broncos this evening in NFL Week 3 action. What is a reasonable final score prediction for this game?
Peyton Manning and the Broncos are coming off of a huge road victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last week on Thursday Night Football and are well rested for tonight's game. They seemed to have figured out the issues that plagued their offense in Week 1 and there are big expectations for them tonight. Detroit has a decent defense, but they are not going to be good enough to shut the Broncos down.
Detroit, on the other hand, is coming off of two straight losses and are looking for their first win of the season. They have a very capable offense, but their defense is likely to give up some big plays to the Broncos. Head coach Jim Caldwell still is very confident that his team can get back in the NFC playoff race, but they cannot afford to go 0-3 on the season.
Both of these teams could come out with a key victory tonight and it is going to be a very entertaining game.
If the Lions want to come out with their first win of the season, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson have to get on the same page. They haven't been the deadly duo that they have been over the past couple of seasons throughout the first couple weeks and need to get back on track. Johnson is the only target that the Lions have that will have a consistent advantage throughout the course of the game.
Denver has a few keys as well, including figuring out a way to get the ground game going. Whether C.J. Anderson or Ronnie Hillman steps up as the primary ball carrier, they cannot afford to struggle in that area any more. Manning needs some help and the best way to give him that help is to establish the run.
Defensively, both teams have to stay grounded and not give up big plays. Both of these offenses fuel off of big plays and they both look for them quite often as well. Whoever is able to step up and shut down the big play and force a turnover or two is going to be the team that pull out the win.
At this point in time it is very difficult to predict the final score to this game. It could go either way with all of the talent that both teams possess. That being said, the Broncos are the better all-around football team and should be able to come away with a big victory to move to 3-0 on the season.
