Gillian Anderson Had to Fight for Equal Pay in 'X-Files Return

The truth is out there and, right now, if its about the entertainment industry, and you happen to be a woman or a minority its probably, not very flattering at the moment. Actress Gillian Anderson, the Scully half of the iconic Mulder and Scully partnership that made The X-Files the coolest show of the 90's, has revealed that she was offered half the salary that fellow actor David Duchovny was for the show's high profile return.

According to CNN,,the actress stated "I think it's important that it gets heard and voiced. It was shocking to me, given all the work that I had done in the past to get us to be paid fairly. I worked really hard toward that and finally got somewhere with it." The two actors eventually received the same salary but it wasn't a new issue for Anderson who fought for several years during the shows initial run to get an equal salary as her costar.

As she told the Daily Beast about the difference in pay in The X-Files, "Even in interviews, in the last few years, people have said to me, I can't believe that happened ,how did you feel about it, that is insane. And my response always was, that was then, this is now. And then it happened again! I don't even know what to say about it. It is sad."

The issue of equal pay for actresses has been one of the many Hollywood issues bubbling up in the past few weeks. Recently, someone as high profile as Jennifer Lawrence has been complaining on this issue too. Noting that she got less her male costars in the film American Hustle. Actresses, even one's who are part of a famous screen pairing, don't seem to be considered as valuable as actors in Hollywood. Gillian Anderson returns for a six episode arc of The X-Files. Many of the series's original characters are back also.
