Say what you want about George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels but at least they had an original story with a lot of thought put into them. The same really can’t be said for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (or Star Wars: A Newer Hope). The lazy writing and blatant ripoff of the original ruined the rest of the franchise in our opinion. Recently, George Lucas opened up about having to divorce himself from Star Wars so that Disney and J.J. Abrams could paint The Force Awakens up like the Jezebel that it became.
Recently, George Lucas spoke to The Washington Post about how he had to distance himself from his former lover in order for her to move on from him:
“I call it like a divorce...There is no such thing as working over someone’s shoulder. You’re either the dictator or you’re not. And to do that would never work, so I said ‘I’m going to get divorced.’ . . . I knew that I couldn’t be involved. All I’d do is make them miserable. I’d make myself miserable. It would probably ruin a vision -- J.J. has a vision, and it’s his vision.”
As for the finished project, Lucas recently told reporters his thoughts on the film, as Vulture reports:
“I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”
Doesn’t like a vote of confidence to us.
