Movie Lists: 10 Top Pirated Films of 2015 Shows Surge in Download Numbers!

In the age of digital media, we are faced with an epidemic: Pirating movies and music. Is this a shift that we embrace or do we combat it? There are strong advocates for each, but there is no denying that pirating media is here to stay. This is the list of the top 10 films that were pirated in 2015!

Released by Excipio via Variety, the top 10 pirated films of 2015 sees a rise in the number of downloads at an alarming rate. In the face of studio persecution, millions of Internet users have decided to circumvent seeing films in the theater, for a less-than-stellar copy of the movie that they can watch at home. This is a practice that most of us have been guilty of a time or two. The biggest surprise about this drastic increase is that streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu have also seen a big rise in their numbers as well.

The main cause of this surge is due to the development of overseas markets. Every one of the films on this list sit well above the number set by last years winner, Wolf of Wall Street, who boasted 30 million downloads. Does this mean that pirating films is becoming the trend amongst movie-goers. That is highly unlikely, but with the rising costs of a theater ticket, and the rising costs of film budgets, this is not a good sign. Topping this years list is Interstellar (46.7 million downloads), Furious 7 (44.7 million downloads), and Avengers: Age of Ultron (41.5 million downloads).

Check out the complete list below:

  1. Interstellar (46,762,310 dls)
