Lets face it. Actors lie….a lot. Especially when they are promoting a film. You see, instead of guiding us through an emotional journey, every filmmaker these days seems to want to take us a Citizen Cain level sleigh ride full of twist and turns. This is especially true for comic book movies. Actors tend to a lie a lot when it comes to superhero films. Like when Robert Downey Jr played up Ben Kingsley’s role in Iron Man 3 or the way that Christian Bale did when he told us that The Dark Knight Rises was going to be good. So when Chris Evans says that he wants to appear in Iron Man 4 it comes off a little suspect. Especially considering the fact that he has made no secret of wanting to semi-retire from acting. Add that to the fact that his comic book counterpart died at end of the Civil War storyline and you can’t help but wonder if Evans is faking this to fool us into to thinking that the same thing won’t happen in Captain America 3. Could Evans' recent comments be a veiled confirmation that Steve Rogers’ death is near?
While discussing Robert Downey Jr’s appearance in Captain America 3: Civil War, Chris Evans told Entertainment Weekly that he would reprise his role in Iron Man 4, stating:
"I’d be happy to be in an Iron Man movie. We've been in so many movies together, the titles are almost, at this point, inconsequential. We all win!"
Last year Evans spoke to Variety about his desire to finish out his Marvel contract and focus on directing:
“If I’m acting at all, it’s going to be under Marvel contract, or I’m going to be directing. I can’t see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I’m contractually obligated to do.”
Evans later clarified his statement to stress that he wasn’t planning a full retirement. However, The MCU has already introduced two possible successors to the Captain America moniker, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon. Both characters have taken up Cap’s shield in the comics.
What do you think? Is Chris Evans going to be leaving Marvel behind? Who would you like to see take over as the new Cap? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
