In an interview with The Times of India website, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone opened up and were more frank with aspects of their lives they are usually less forthcoming about. Promoting their new film Tamasha, which opens in theaters a week from this Friday, the duo had a lot to say about a lot of things and each other as well.
If you are reading this article, you are probably well familiar with the Ranbir/Deepika story. They once were in a relationship, had a very public spat and eventually reconciled. Their new movie Tamasha has garnered high praise and both Deepika and Ranbir appear to be enjoying each other's company again. Critics have remarked about their chemistry in the film.
As for working together, Ranbir had this to say, via The Times of India, "There is a sense of admiration and respect but no awkwardness. I think we both are ambitious and owe it to our work and understand the value we both bring to the movie. We are examples of breaking that stereotypical syndrome that people who have shared a relationship in the past cannot work together."
As for working together, Deepika wasn't too worried about Ranbir's recent string of failures. She had this to say via the Times of India, " He knows what he is doing. It (Bombay Velvet's debacle) didn't surprise me because everyone's career goes through its ups and downs. What you can't take away from someone is their talent, which he is blessed with. He is also very hard-working. He is not someone who takes his lineage for granted. He is not someone who takes the audience or the film for granted. I have also been through phase of my career where some of my films back-to-back did not work. But with certain maturity, you realize that it is a part of everyone's journey, everyone's career and it is only going to make him a better person."
Both are seriously committed to their craft and recognize a similar work efthic in the other. That work ethic is built out of a shared history and a deep respect for each other.
