Game Prediction: Andrew Luck and the Colts hit the road this evening looking to get back on track after two straight crushing losses to the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints. They have gotten off to a terrible start and don't have an easy road to get back in the win column against an undefeated Carolina team. Cam Newton has been impressive this season and the Panthers are favored to win tonight.
If the Colts want to have any chance at coming away from tonight's game with a victory, Luck is going to have to make plays. Carolina has one of the best defenses in the NFL, but Luck has one of the best arms when he is healthy.
News broke that in addition to the shoulder injury that forced Luck to miss two games, he also has been playing with broken ribs since Week 3 of the season. That is enough to throw any player off of his game, much less a quarterback.
Containing Newton is going to be nearly impossible for the Colts, as he has been making an impact with his arm and legs. There aren't many dual-threat quarterbacks in the league better than Newton and he is a candidate to win the MVP award this season if he can continue putting up big numbers. That may be a bit of a stretch, but there have certainly been conversations about him and the award.
This game should come down to the fourth quarter, but we're going to roll with a bit of an upset.
Despite getting off to a 3-4 start this season, the Colts are one of the better football teams in the NFL. Luck will get things rolling early tonight against the Panthers' defense and the Colts' defense will find a way to force a turnover or two. Newton is a great quarterback, but he still is a bit turnover prone.
Carolina could very easily come away with the win and move to 7-0 tonight, but our money is on the Colts taking a huge win on the road and evening their record at 4-4.
