Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill set an impressive NFL record this afternoon during the Dolphins' 44-26 victory over the Houston Texans in NFL Week 7 action today.
Tannehill ended up setting the record for most consecutive completed passes, with 25 in a row spanning from last game into today's game. He needed to come through with that type of a performance after all of the doubters began coming out of the woodwork due to the struggles that he has had so far this season. Miami needed to break out with a blowout win like that as well to get their season back on track.
During the entire game, Tannehill ended up competing 18 of his 19 pass attempts for 282 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Those are exactly the type of numbers that the Dolphins were hoping to see out of their quarterback from the start of the season. Miami knew that he could become something special, but consistency has been an issue throughout Tannehill's career. Perhaps this will be the game that gets him going and keeps him going long-term.
Donovan McNabb formerly held the record from his days with the Philadelphia Eagles. He had completed 24 straight passes during the 2004 season.
While this may not be a huge record that Tannehill has broken, it is still a record that has been kept track of. He has to figure out a way to use this performance as a stepping stone to do even bigger and better things. Miami has the talent to be a playoff team in the AFC this season, but they won't go any farther than their quarterback can take them.
All of that being said, our congratulations go out to Tannehill for his performance this afternoon and it will be intriguing to see what is yet to come this season for him.
