The Green Bay Packers are being mentioned in NFL trade rumors. Is wide receiver Vincent Jackson a potential trade target for them ahead of the deadline?
Bleacher Report believes that Green Bay should be worried about the way that their offense has been struggling over the past couple of weeks. They only put up 17 points against the San Francisco 49ers and looked a bit rough this past week against the St. Louis Rams. Playing without Jordy Nelson hasn't been easy for the Packers, but second-year receiver Davante Adams has been dealing with an ankle injury as well.
Jackson is one option that Chris Simms really believes would make an impact for the Packers. He is aging a bit and has a big contract, but would certainly fit into the offense perfectly for the Packers. Green Bay has the type of team that could win a Super Bowl this season, but they need to aggressively pursue an upgrade for their offense to put more talent around Rodgers.
Adams will be coming back at some point soon, but as Simms mentioned in his interview all of the Packers' wide receivers all are similar. They aren't deep threats, which is exactly where Nelson would have excelled this season.
Other options that Simms mentioned were Marquise Goodwin, Justin Hunter and Kenny Stills. All three of those players would give Green Bay the type of deep threat that they are missing.
While those players all sound good, Jackson would obviously be the biggest pickup for the Packers. If they really want to make a huge impact on the offensive side of the football, Jackson could be the difference maker and all-around threat that would put them over the top. He is a big body while also possessing the speed to get down the field and past any defensive back guarding him.
Ted Thompson hasn't normally been the type of general manager that makes mid-season moves, but this could be one of the rare situations where he considers the option.
It will be intriguing to see what the Packers end up doing with the October 28th trade deadline coming up quickly. There are quite a few players that they could look at to make their offense a much more dangerous unit. Aaron Rodgers is playing MVP caliber football again this season and giving him as many options as possible would be the best decision for the Packers.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors throughout the next week or two about the Packers looking into options at the wide receiver position. Thompson may not end up making a move, but it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea.
