The Indianapolis Colts came away with a huge 35-33 Week 3 victory over the Tennessee Titans. What are the five main takeaways from their first win of 2015?
Needless to say, getting the first win of the season is a big deal and should be celebrated. Andrew Luck may not have played an amazing game, but he put in some tough work late in the game to pull off the win.
Despite the slow start, the Colts are still very excited about the season and believe that they can come back from the 0-2 start and get into the playoffs. They were considered to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender throughout the entire offseason, but a lot of that hype disappeared immediately when they started 0-2. Last season the Colts started 0-2 as well and were able to come back to reach the AFC Championship game.
It will be interesting to see how the Colts look moving forward, but there are quite a few things from the game that can be seen both positive and negative. Let's take a look at the top five takeaways from the Colts' Week 3 victory over the Titans.
1. Andrew Luck Still Has a Long Way to Go
While the Colts were able to pull out the victory, there is still a big question mark surrounding whether or not Andrew Luck can get his season back on track. He completed 18 of his 30 passing attempts for 260 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. His two interceptions were not good passes at all and he has a long way to go in order to become the type of elite quarterback that the Colts need him to be.
2. Frank Gore Is Finally Living Up to the Hype
Perhaps the biggest bright spot for the Colts this week was the play of veteran running back Frank Gore, who was signed to be a major threat this past offseason. He carried the football 14 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon, with one of those touchdowns being the game winner. Gore has to be excited to finally break out for his new team and Colts' fans should expect to see him continue playing at a high level for the remainder of the year.
3. Andre Johnson Could Be a Free Agency Bust
The other high profile free agent that general manager Ryan Grigson went out and signed was veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson. He has yet to make an impact for the Colts throughout the first three weeks of the season and was held without a catch in Week 3. There is a chance that Johnson will end up going down as one of the biggest free agency busts of the 2015 season.
4. The Colts' Offensive Line Must Get Better Moving Forward
While Luck may be struggling in a big way, a big part of the issue is the poor play of the offensive line. They have to figure things out moving forward this season and get back to protecting their quarterback and opening up holes for Gore. Indianapolis definitely has the talent on their line, but they simply have to figure out what the big issue is and fix it immediately.
5. Chuck Pagano Must Be Fired Immediately
There have been plenty of rumors and reports that Chuck Pagano is on his way out of Indianapolis and he personally doesn't believe that he will be back in 2016. His team came into the Titans' game unprepared and there have been major issues throughout his coaching career with the Colts that will cost him his job. After seeing the struggles that the Colts had this week, the Colts should strong consider firing Pagano and moving on immediately.
