Kangana Ranaut eschews the traditional. For her, there is the normal way and then there is the way that Kangana Ranaut does it, and that is the way that is more to her liking. She is the new breed of Bollywood actress. They take a backseat to no one and they do not owe their careers to the anyone named Khan.
Conventional Bollywood thought is that for an actress to accelerate her career, she must traverse to the Kingdom of Khan and ask one of the boys if they want to do a film. For good reason, too. Since the Kingdom was established some 20 plus years ago, there have been very few blockbuster hits that didn't have a Khan in it, usually Salman, often Shah Rukh, rarely Aamir. It was either that or, gulp, Pakistani cinema.
The revolution is here and Kangana struck a big blow for the progressiveness of Bollywood. She made films, successful films, without a Khan anywhere to be found. Films like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns are the start of the new, and Kangana couldn't be prouder.
In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Kangana talked about this:
"Some people like Mr Bachchan (Amitabh) and Aamir (Khan) have always supported me while some have given me stepmotherly treatment. I guess it's because I'm not a social butterfly, not even on social media. I was never expected to make it as I was the outsider, not the Next Big Thing from the industry. I was mocked and ridiculed. But I made it without a film starring the Khans."
Kangana isn't disrespecting the Khans, far be it. In fact, as noted above, Kangana has immense respect for Aamir. It's just, in Kangana Ranaut's mind, there are two ways to do things. There is the normal way and then there is the Kangana way.
