Kangana Ranaut is flying high at the moment. Her film Tanu Weds Manu Returns, along with Deepika Padukone’s Piku, are the surprise hits of the spring. Is Kangana letting this success get to her? Is she getting a big head and turning into Bollywood’s biggest diva? If so, this certainly has to make people think twice about the care-free, kind of kooky image that most have of the actress.
It began on the set of her previous movie Queen. The actress was allowed to “adjust” her dialogue and was given a writing credit as a result. Rumor is now, according to Bollywood Life, that the actress now demands writing credits on all her films . She sits on all phases of scripting and “suggests” changes, but not only in her parts alone. The suggestions, some have claimed, are not suggestions so much as demands and, if these demands aren’t meant, Kangana’s going to take her ball and go home.
But it goes deeper than that.
While shooting the upcoming film Ungli, which is being directed by Rensil D’Silva, Kangana’s demanding behavior has seemingly, again according to rumors, gone off the deep end. Constant temper tantrums and arriving late to set is just the tip of the iceberg.
DNA India.com interviewed a source who wished to remained nameless who says , “Kangana submitted some receipts for the sea-link ferry to the production people. They refused to reimburse them for the full amount. So she began arriving late on the set and the excuse was that she was taking longer to arrive because she wasn’t taking the sea-link route.”
However, the source went on to say that when production shifted locations to a spot geographically closer to where Kangana lived, the actress continued arriving late, and when questioned why this was happening -- “she said her house was under renovation and she was staying at her parents’ place which was far. She told the production team to put her up at a five star hotel in Bandra. Obviously her request was turned down.”
From the same article, a friend of Kangana’s dismissed the allegations as fables:
“Kangana wears all the top designer brands, wears accessories and carries handbags and clutches worth lakhs! Someone like that can’t be so cheap as to ask her producer to pay money for her sea-link toll! As far as the Bandra Fort shooting was concerned yes, Kangana did ask to be put up at the hotel for a few days as she felt it would save her travelling and she would reach the set on reporting time.”
The friend goes on to defend Kangana saying she has shot for several big budget productions and no such allegations have arose.
I guess time will tell either way.
