Stepping into Salman Khan's shoes can't be easy, even in the best of situations. Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan is no slouch when it comes to wooing the ladies, but he's not looking to replace King Khan. When Khan stepped away from producer Karan Johar's Shuddhi, Dhawan and regular co-star Alia Bhatt stepped in to save the producer's proverbial bacon.
"I will not say anything about Shuddhi. People have said a lot about it, but as an actor, my job is to act...just talking about is not going to help. So, all that I will do is act and let the audience decide," Dhawan decided.
In its initial form, Shuddhi would have starred Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. When Roshan stepped aside, in road Salman Khan to the rescue, but he had that little 2002 hit-and-run faux paus still hanging over him. When he had to step aside, it looked like the death bell had been sounded. In came Dhawan and Bhatt, and then Salman came on board for it. But just last month, Karan Johar made an announcement saying Varun and Alia have been finalized for it.
Dhawan says, "there are lots of new things in this film and there are also lot of rumors going around with this film. But all I will say is don't listen to any rumors. It's a completely different film."
Meanwhile, Dhawan has also rubbished reports that Shuddhi is based on Amish Ttipathi's debut novel Immortals of Melutha. For Dhawan, the film is important because it is the first film he appears in, where there was major hype attached to it before it even went before cameras.
"Shuddhi, for me, as a film is very special, being talked about before the release. That's never happened with any film of mine. It's going to be a mammoth task for me," the 28-year-old said.
