The San Antonio Spurs have been the most consistent team in the NBA since the arrival of the superstar that is Tim Duncan. Duncan has helped lead the team to five championships since his arrival in Texas 18 years ago. With all those NBA miles on his body it was uncertain if this latest playoff push would be his last. But rumor has it that he is healthy and is ready to return to the team for one last title run.
The Spurs know that they are more than just Duncan, but they also know that having Duncan anchoring the floor is what solidifies this great team. Duncan has put in so much time with the Spurs, he has gone through an impressive list of teammates, which started with David Robinson all the way to Kawhi Leonard.
The combination of Duncan and Leonard has greatly helped the Spurs; both players were named to All-Defensive teams this season, with Leonard being Defensive Player of the Year. The selection of Duncan to another All-Defensive team was historic according to NBA.com:
"Duncan's 15th All-Defensive Team selection ranks him three ahead of Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett who have each been selected to 12 NBA All-Defensive Teams. Also trailing Duncan on the list are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (11) and Scottie Pippen (10)."
With having the defensive player of the year as his side kick, it would seem likely Duncan will want to continue his and the Spurs dominance of the Western Conference for one last run. No word has officially been given from Duncan on his return, but as CBSSports.com puts it:
"The prevailing wisdom among those in close contact with the organization is the same as it was the night the Spurs lost in Game 7 to the Clippers: Duncan, 39, likely will be back for one more hurrah"
If defense wins championships, maybe Duncan and the Spurs will be flying another banner next year.
