The title for the upcoming Season 16 finale of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU has some fans scared for Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the fate her baby. Based on the episode title, “Surrendering Noah,” many fear that Olivia might be not to be able to adopt the child she has spent so much time taking care of. The squad is also facing a Civil War of sorts, with the Detectives all pushing to replace Benson when she gets promoted to Lieutenant.
Recently, Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight opened up to TV Guide about this week’s Season 16 finale episode, and how the infamous Johnny D (Constantine’s Charles Halford) will affect Benson’s adoption of Noah:
"He has some leverage now over Benson ... [and] if this guy gets off, what does that mean for her and Noah? The next layer is that the squad room is a family in itself and how do they adjust to members of the family taking hits?"
Leight also opened up about the fight to see who will be Benson’s number 2 after she gets promoted:
"That's the hot potato around the squad [in the beginning of the finale]. Finn has seniority, Amaro could use a good break, Rollins would be very good at it, but would Olivia ever trust her? And Carisi goes to law school… I hate to give away there's not a cliff-hanger because the stakes are pretty high, [but] for the most part they wrap up by the end of the episode."
Be sure to tune into the Season 16 finale of Law & Order: SVU this Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
