Competition between college basketball teams is extremely heated at this time during the year. However, Seton Hall is facing some out of bounds claims of racism and verbal attacks. This has allegedly cost them a starting guard. Even though the college has denied these accusations, something does seem to be going on at the New Jersey school. They recently lost their top scorer to a suspension after he failed to show self-restraint.
Seton Hall is a private Roman Catholic school based out of South Orange, New Jersey. The Archbishop James Roosevelt Bayley founded them in 1856.
Even though they have been around for a long time, and they are the biggest catholic school in New Jersey, they have never been able to pull off a championship.
However, they were ranked pretty well at the beginning of this season. Still, that has all fallen apart in recent weeks. According to TMZ Sports, this could be due to the school covering up a racist group of athletes:
"Seton Hall University [claims] there is NO investigation into an alleged racial divide on the men's basketball team...claiming reports of racial harassment between players are BS...the Seton Hall team has had a disastrous couple of weeks...punctuated with the sudden departure of starting sophomore guard Jaren Sina...There were reports that Sina (who is white) made his decision to leave the team, in part, due to teammates verbally attacking him over the color of his skin."
Even if the University has been falsely accused, something does seem to be effecting their overall team. According to ESPN, Sterling Gibbs will also be leaving for a couple of games:
"Seton Hall suspended junior guard Sterling Gibbs for two games on Tuesday, after he was ejected Monday night during the Pirates' 80-54 loss to Villanova in Philadelphia. Gibbs was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and ejected for hitting Ryan Acridacono in the face during a scramble for a loose ball. Gibbs, the Pirates' leading scorer who is averaging 16.9 points per game, left the game with 4:38 to play after striking the Villanova guard."
