B.J. Penn is one of the most recognizable names out of the UFC. Even though his current record doesn't reflect it, he was extremely dominant at one time. Now, reports are saying that the one-time great was arrested in Maui after a street brawl. Also, other sources are claiming that, even though he wasn't drunk, Penn's character seemed off. Apparently, he bashed his head multiple times, out of anger, on a solid wooden post.
Before his time in the UFC, Penn was the first American Gold Medalist in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Also, as far as accommodations go, he was the first Undisputed Champion in the UFC's Light Heavyweight Division.
Even though his list of successes seem to go on and on, Penn is no longer considered to be the man he once was. According to The Huffington Post, B.J. was arrested in Maui for fighting:
"Maui police say former two-time UFC champion B.J. Penn was arrested after fighting with a man outside a bar...police say the Hilo native, whose real name is Jay D. Penn, was in a physical altercation with a 37-year-old man Saturday night outside a bar in Kihei...Penn was taken into custody but was not charged, police said. The 36-year-old was released pending further investigation."
True, this situation has to be hard on the retired fighter. However, according to TMZ Sports, Penn might have a lot more problems that fans aren't aware of:
"B.J. Penn slammed his head against a solid wooden bar 3 times in anger ... before the ex-UFC champ went outside and got into a fight...BJ was a "perfect gentleman" when he arrived to the South Shore Tiki Lounge in Maui...but became agitated and at one point began banging his head into the bar. 'He was definitely aggravated at something...He only had one drink. At first he was okay, then he was hitting his head on the bar...' one source tells us who also says Penn did NOT appear to be drunk."
