While in high school, Blake Griffin kicked off his reputation for being dominant on a basketball court. Now that he is a professional, however, he is beginning to show that he is much more than NBA Pro. In the past, Griffin starred in a Game Fly commercial, and the director claimed he was wonderful to work with. Kia seems to see the thespian in him as well, because they are featuring Blake in their new Wild West themed TV-spot.
Before the big leagues and the University of Oklahoma, Griffin played ball for the Oklahoma Christian School. During each of his four years, Blake led the saints to consecutive state titles. Then, in college he was named the Consensus National Player of the Year.
Since then, he has been wrecking it as the captain of the L.A. Clippers, performing so well on the courth that he has been offered many other opportunities. According to The News Wheel, Griffin is making in moves in Kia's new commercial:
"Look out, evildoers: it's Sheriff Blake, the rootinest, tootinest, shootinest power forward in the wild, wild Western Conference. NBA (or, as one Old West character calls it, "peach basket") All-Star Blake Griffin is starring in a new Kia ad series to promote the brand's best-selling Optima midsize sedan. Entitled "Showdown," the first Blake Griffin Kia commercial portrays the athlete as an actor in a western film who makes the executive decision to have his character ride an Optima rather than a horse..."
This isn't Blake's first experience behind a camera either, and according to Ad Week, he proved he is quite skilled while working for Game Fly:
"Blake Griffin is a spectacular athlete. Oddly enough, he's also a pretty good actor. "Some friends of mine directed a Kia spot he did," said Tim Ketchersid, a director at Gifted Youth, Funny or Die's commercial production company. 'He had a paragraph of dialogue, walking backwards, one shot, and he did it perfectly every time. I've never worked with an actor that could do that.' So Ketchersid was thrilled to direct the Los Angeles Clippers star in new ads for GameFly, the video-game rental service."
