The LA Dodgers are one of the most respectable baseball clubs in the MLB. In recent news, the team has named new management, including Andrew Friedman, and the people upstairs have already proven they have big imaginations. A racket of trades occurred this week in, reportedly, a very short amount of time. It is still too early to tell, but this attempt at solidifying a ball club could make or break the franchise.
The Dodgers are the second most successful team in the National League, and the second most wealthy in all of MLB (right behind the New York Yankees). They have been division champs many times in the last 10 years.
Surprisingly, though, they haven't won a World Series since 1988.
Andrew Friedman took over as President of Baseball Operations for the Dodgers earlier this year, and with him came several additions to the front office. According to the LA Times, the new additions have recently made some bold choices:
"The new Dodgers front office that can marry a huge imagination with a huge wallet. Within a couple of hours after lunch, word spread that the Dodgers had agreed to separate deals in which shortstop Jimmy Rollins was coming, second baseman Dee Gordon, pitcher Dan Haren and shortstop Miguel Rojas were going, four prospects were coming and two were going."
Baseball is a business just as much as it is a sport, if not more so. Reported on by Yahoo Sports, there are many moving gears in each and every business transaction:
"To recap, the Dodgers gave their starting second baseman and their (somewhat reluctant) No. 5 starter and something like $13 million to the Marlins for four minor leaguers, two of which scouts seem to like. (And it sort of looks like the Marlins, who just gave a single player $325 million, are now in the business of selling off prospects, which feels weird and, granted, Marlins-ish.) Then, the Dodgers were to ship a couple of minor leaguers to the Phillies for Rollins, who is 36 and still plays a good shortstop"
It remains to be seen how these trades will affect the Dodgers. What do you think will happen? Let us know in the comment section below.
