'Glass & Blood' Will Highlight Philip Glass's Bloodiest Film Scores; Michael Riesman and Chase Spruill Perform

Le Poisson Rouge will be presenting “Glass & Blood,” concert works from the bloodiest film scores by Philip Glass. The New York premiere of this show with include new suites from "Dracula," "Candyman" and "The Hours" for violin and piano.Michael Riesman will be on piano with Chase Spruill playing the violin. Riesman, a multi-talented composer, conductor, keyboardist and record producer, has also been the musical director of the world-renowned Philip Glass Ensemble since 1976. He has had a long-standing relationship with Philip Glass and has conducted the Oscar-nominated scores "Notes on a Scandal," "The Truman Show" and Martin Scorsese’s "Kundun."This concert comes at a perfect time, with Glass’s score for the 1992 film "Candyman" recently being released on vinyl. One Way Static announced this long-awaited vinyl pressing and started sending out a limited edition of copies to anxious fans in late October.

    The nation’s oldest community music school, Third Street Music School Settlement, will be celebrating its 120th anniversary with a special annual holiday concert at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.Students of all ages will be performing traditional carols, orchestral classics and modern holiday hits. The performance will showcase the school’s rock and jazz ensembles, choirs, orchestras and jazz big band, as well as dancers who will be performing different selections from "The Nutcracker."

    Leah Flynn, the 7-year-old who made headlines with her hopes to play her violin for peace in Ferguson, Missouri, has finally achieved her dream. Flynn has been invited to perform “Let There Be Peace on Earth” in Missouri to help bring a message of peace to the citizens of St. Louis, Ferguson and all viewers nationwide.Flynn, who lives in Sanford, Florida, received nationwide media attention when she publicly voiced her mission to play her violin in hopes of bringing peace to turbulent Missouri towns. According to her PR representative, she has received offers to perform by two Missouri media outlets.Flynn, only in the second-grade, has been playing the violin since she was 5 and rehearses daily with her father. She has performed as a soloist for many different concerts and venues. The young musician got the idea to play for peace after viewing the violence that was happening in Ferguson after the shooting and death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by Police Officer Darren Wilson.
