Tony-nominated 'Stereophonic' has been extended for 20 additional weeks. The David Adjmi play, initially slated to run for 14 weeks, will remain at the John Golden Theatre until Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Will Butler, the Tony-nominated composer, announced the extension on Tuesday, June 4, at a special concert at Bowery Electric. The announcement marks the play's second extension.
'Stereophonic' has recently received 13 Tony Award nominations, including Best Play, making it the most nominated play in history.
The entire score of 'Stereophonic' was performed live at the Bowery Electric, with special appearances by Broadway performers John Gallagher, Jr. and Amber Gray, as well as Butler and his band, Will Butler + Sister Squares, music director Justin Craig, and Tony-nominated sound designer Ryan Rumery.
'Stereophonic' is known for only including original songs from Butler as snippets throughout the show. Despite this, the show's cast recorded a recording that included all of the show's songs and unaired material.
The album will be available for streaming, with a physical release on Friday, June 14.
The cast includes Will Brill, Andrew R. Butler, Julia Canfield, Eli Gelb, Tom Pecinka, Sarah Pidgeon, and Chris Stack.
In late 2023, the play made its Off-Broadway debut at Playwrights Horizons. Rave reviews and positive word of mouth led to an extension of Off-Broadway and then a fast Broadway transfer, with the full cast reprising their roles.
The show is supported by understudies Cornelius McMoyler, Benjamin Anthony Anderson, Sofia Deler, and Lilian Ganser. Taylor Willimas and Alaine Alldaffer are in charge of casting.
Under the direction of Daniel Aukin, the cast includes music director Justin Craig, vocal coach Gigi Buffington, lighting designer Juliet Chang, sound designer Ryan Rumery, and costume designer Enver Chakartash.
Furthermore, the Broadway run is produced by Ashley Melone & Nick Mills, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Sonia Friedman Productions, and Linden Productions.
