The wait is almost over. Pretty soon the talking and hype will be at an end and the movie watching and judging will begin. July 8th of this year will see the release of Salman Khan's especially hyped wrestling film Sultan. If we were to put Sultan's release into perspective, you would have to garner the fan energy of the recent Star Wars film and double it. Yes, double it. One would have to combine Tom Cruise's popularity with that of Brad Pitt and you might just begin get into the arena with Salman Khan.
The 75 days Sultan has taken to film to film so far took to film was, by Bollywood standards, epic. A recent found that Sultan was the most anticipated film of 2016. From the InternationalBusinessTimes online, "Ormax Media conducted a survey on the forthcoming Bollywood films in 2016 (whose trailers are yet to be released) and has come up with the top 5 most awaited movies of this year (as of 23 January). There are many anticipated movies this year, but Salman's Sultan has bagged the top position in the list most awaited Hindi film of 2016. Sultan which will present Salman as a wrestler, is followed by Aamir Khan's Dangal, which is also based on the life of a wrestler."
With another 30 days of filming still in front of them, the 105 days spent on Sultan, without interruption is near unheard of. According to the website DNA India, "Approximately Rs 200-250 crore is riding on Salman for two of his films. He has two big holiday releases - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan." With Sultan, one has to take into account the extra time and people needed to train both Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in both wrestling and a new language. Producers are gambling a lot but Salman Khan has proven he can deliver.
