Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in The Revenant was that good that even his biggest rival for the Oscars 2016 Best Actor category, Eddie Redmayne, thought that he deserved the golden statuette for the category. After being nominated five times at the Oscars and ending up empty-handed, The Danish Girl actor felt that this was DiCaprio's year to finally nab the coveted title.
Us Weekly reported that just like everyone else, Redmayne was also rooting for the 41-year-old actor. Although they were set to be contenders for the highly-anticipated event, the 34-year-old Oscar 2015 Best Actor winner admitted that DiCaprio should come on top.
“I think it’s pretty much certainly is. The film is great, and it’s so well deserved,” Redmayne graciously told the site.
Talking about the pressure and the excitement that goes along with the ceremony, Redmayne revealed that he still gets surprised and overjoyed to be part of the event.
“It’s impossible to get your head around what this circus is,” he said. “But it’s so much fun to be a part of, and you try just to kind of, really just sort of pinch yourself and take stock of all the memories, so that in years from now, you look back on it and try to really work out what it all was.”
HollywoodLife reports that even DiCaprio was expecting to win. He felt that this was his time to shine and he was very excited about it.
“[Leo] is not nervous at all,” the source told the site. “He is very excited and ready to become a first-time Academy Award winner. He really can’t wait for it to happen. He is very excited and he even expects to win. Not in a cocky way but he believes that it is his time just like everyone else does.”
