Warhammer 40,000 is an iconic table top strategy game, and it looks like the upcoming Battlefleet Gothic: Armada will do justice to the series. Development studio Tindalos Interactive just released the Chaos faction trailer, highlighting some of the better characteristics of the Black Crusade.
When it comes to Warhammer 40,000 games on PC, it seems to often to be a hit-or-miss scenario. Fortunately, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada appears to be on track to be not only a good Warhammer 40k adaptation, but an excellent RTS fleet combat game all on its own.
Key aspects to the game include captain, crew, and ship development, all of which play important roles over the course of the dynamic campaign. Captains and planets have unique characteristics as well. If the player loses control of a planet, they may only have a certain amount of time before the planet is destroyed. Captains may disobey orders at times, and if they do it enough, you may need to execute them to restore order to the ranks. "The two aspects outlined above - the possible fates of planets and of captains - help to explain how campaign and combat will work, and how they'll capture the flavour of Warhammer 40k."
So far the Orks and Imperium have been revealed previously as playable factions, and now Tindalos has released the trailer for the Chaos faction. While Chaos ships aren't as sturdy or powerful as their Imperium counterparts, they have better range and maneuverability (and a freeze bomb), making them lethal at ranged encounters. Another perk for the Chaos faction are the skins available. According to PC Gamer, "Their twisted, skulled battleships mutate to reflect whatever Chaos god they're flying in service to, bringing different buffs to the fleet."
It's looking more and more like Tindalos Interactive are turning Battlefleet Gothic: Armada into an excellent RTS game worthy of the Warhammer 40,000 banner.
