'Destiny 2' Fate Uncertain as Bungie CEO Leaves Company after Game Delayed Again

Long time fans of 'Destiny' have yet another heartbreak, as the sequel to the troubled game has been delayed yet again. Worse yet, the fate of 'Destiny 2,' and perhaps even Bungie, are being questioned as Bungie CEO Harold Ryan left the company just days after the game was delayed again.

When Destiny was being marketed, it was thought to be a breakthrough in the console field, bringing a genuine FPS-MMORPG to the console market. However, as many players learned, a lack of content at launch hindered developing the kind of fanbase the company expected. With the lack of any hard content since the release of The Taken King back in September, even more gamers were put off from the game.

Worse yet, delays in Destiny 2 have continuously pushed back the game's expected release date, and with the exit of Bungie veteran Harold Ryan, the future of both the Destiny series as well as Bungie are concerning. Ryan worked with Bungie since the development of the original Halo game.

Bungie released a brief statement by the new CEO, Pete Parsons, regarding the transition: "I want to personally thank Harold for his friendship, passion, hard work, and dedication in helping make Bungie the great company it is today. To the players of Destiny, I want you to know that my number one priority, and Bungie's, is and always has been to deliver great games that we can all share together. I believe that Destiny is a one-of-a-kind experience. I also believe you have yet to see our studio's best work. My new role here at the studio will be entirely focused on fulfilling that promise."

But as Eurogamer points out, "It's clear, however, Bungie is being stretched to support its game while delivering a sequel." There is too little content being released to keep gamers interested in the series. After running the same handful of dungeons and quests dozens or hundreds of times or playing the same multiplayer PvP maps over and over, new content is desperately needed to keep attention on Destiny and not one of the many other shooter games out there.

Hopefully Bungie's new leadership will be able to helm the studio back to its glory days and bring gamers new Destiny content worth playing. Until then, more and more gamers will drift away from what really was a remarkable game.
