Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut Says She was Physically Abused by Person in Industry

Kangana Ranaut dropped a bombshell at a book launch for a journalist friend. The Tanu Weds Manu star shocked the whole of Bollywood when she revealed she had been physically abused by a Bollywood insider. Ranaut says the abuse occured in her early days, but she declined to put a name to the abuser. All of Bollywood was rocked by her confession and speculation has been rampant about who this person was.

At the book launch, Ranaut had this to say via the Indian Express, "It was a very difficult and very harsh time. I was physically abused. I don't have to go to details, I felt trapped. You feel people might help you. But there are no free lunches. But when you are going you fall for it."

After a bit of prodding by her journalist friend, Barkha Dutt, Ranaut did finally reveal some more information about her alleged abuser. From Times of India comes this, "This man, who was my father's age, hit me hard on my head when I was 17. I started bleeding. I took out my sandal and hit his head hard and he started to bleed too. I lodged an FIR against the man."

So, while everyone's sympathies are with Kangana Ranaut, no one is entirely sure where the truth is because, as several sites have noted, Ranaut is prone to over-exaggerations. Whatever the case may be, we are not blind to the fact that her situation does occur all too frequently in the entertainment world, no matter the country. Given recent societal problems in India with violence against women, it is really a shame that such an enlightened country hasn't moved to protect all its people equally, not just a select few. It also gives rise to the credibility of her story.
