Friends though they are, nothing gets in the way of business, and pretty soon Aamir and Salman Khan will come in competition with each other, in a sort of indirect manner. One of King Khan’s upcoming releases, Sultan, and Amir’s next film, Dangal, share a very similar story. Will the fact that Aamir’s film comes out after Salman’s doom it to failure? Can the cinematic titans play on the same playground and get along?
Ever the preparer, after his previous film PK finished filming, Aamir began to prepare for his next film Dangal. Loosely inspired by the life of Mahavir Phogat, Aamir will be doing a lot of wrestling.
In Sultan, Salman plays the role of a 40-year-old boxer, named Sultan Ali Khan. The first trailer for the film created plenty to get excited about.
Both films have been in the pipeline for over a year, Aamir’s has the cast finalized, while Salman’s is nowhere near. Kangana Ranaut was approached, but she said no. Parineeti Chopra’s name was bounced around, and it’s still bouncing. Aamir’s film is all ready to begin shooting in September. As is Aamir’s custom, he will take as long on the film as the film itself dictates.
The amazing thing is Khan has added 22 kilos for the film. The production will start with him as the 50-year-old version of the character. All the scenes involving the older version of the character will be filmed, and then a hiatus will see Aamir working his butt off to get into shape to play the 18-year-old version of the character.
Salman, on the other hand, is lining up movies one after the other.
The rub, at least where Aamir maybe concerned, is Salman’s version of the story will have been told and digested. Will audiences rather see Aamir tackling something else, having digested this story already?
