Although it seems extremely unlikely, word has it the Queen Elizabeth is ready to step down as the monarch of England. According to the latest gossip news updates, the Queen is looking to hand the reigns of the kingdom over to her grandson Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, despite Prince Charles being next in line to become king. It's said that William's dad id more than willing to step aside given how popular her Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have become in recent years.
After spending the vast majority of her 89-years sitting on the throne of England, it would seem that Queen Elizabeth II is ready to step down in order to finally retire from her royal duties.
One source in the latest January 18, issue of OK! Magazine claims that Ole Bess feels that her time would be best spent taking care of her elderly husband, Prince Phillip:
"Her husband, Prince Phillip, is 94 and not as sprightly as he once was. She wants to spend every possible moment with the man who's been by her side for 70-years.
"She'd hate for something to happen to him while she's away on official business."
Although the throne is rightly his should the Queen ever truly abdicate, Prince Charles is said to have more or less accepted that the crown would never be his, some time ago:
"Charles knows how popular Wills and Kate are.
"He quietly agreed to forgo his claim to the throne months ago."
As exciting as that all sounds, Gossip Cop claims that their Palace insider swears that the Queen has no plans to give up her place as head of the royal family while she is still walking upright:
"Of course, like many fairy tales, this one is complete fiction.
"Let's be clear: If and when Prince William and Kate Middleton do become King and Queen, it won't be OK! breaking the news."
What do you think about the Queen's continuing to hold onto the throne year-after-year?
Should Elizabeth consider stepping down in favor of breathing some new life into the tired old monarchy?
Or, would it crazy to expect the Queen to step down from her role as head of all of the British Empire even one day before she dies?
Let us hear what you have to say about it in the comment field below.
