Since Queen Victoria's rule in the mid-19th century Buckingham Palace has reportedly followed the same stuffy Christmas traditions, but word has it the princess Kate Middleton is ready to force a change. According to the latest gossip news updates, Prince Williams and his wife refused to follow the rules last year -- opting instead to open presents at Anmer Hall. Word has it that standing up to Elizabeth has even brought the Duke and Duchess even closer together than ever.
It would seem that the future Queen of England isn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers in the British monarchy for the sake of a more downhome approach to Christmas.
According to the Daily Beast's informant, last year Kate and William finally broke away from the Palace's old approach to the holiday in favor of a more family oriented get together at their place:
"Rather than going back to the Queen's place after church, Kate, William, and George went to Anmer Hall, where presents were doled out before a relaxed, long lunch with Kate's family.
"These days, the principal influence on the Cambridge Christmas is not Queen Victoria, but Carole Middleton."
Apparently their us-against-the -orld attitude is doing wonders for their marriage as the Duke and Duchess are said to be as close to each other today as they have ever been.
One source in the latest December 7, issue of Star magazine claims that their staff still has to deal with the two sometimes making out in the hall like a couple of teenagers:
"They're still as much in love as they were when they first started dating as students, and they don't want that to ever change.
"Staff at their homes have gotten used to seeing them kissing in the hallways, like newlyweds."
Although she has clearly been busy having babies and rearranging royal Christmas procedures, Kate is still able to make time to throw her support behind worthy causes like the More Smiles Appear, a charity fund for the children's intensive care unit at St. Mary's in Paddington, West London.
During a recent event, People reports, that the Duchess spoke gravely about the need to have proper institutions to treat vulnerable children in times of crisis:
"The thought of your child in an intensive care unit is harrowing for any parent.
"The commitment to expand and transform the Children's Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital will vitally guarantee more space to treat more children and support more families."
What do you think about Kate Middleton supposedly having her way with centuries old holidays traditions?
Would it be best if the Duchess stuck to raising money for children's hospitals and remembered her place?
Or, is it nice to finally have someone in the family that isn't a slave to the royals' old ways of doing things?
