Salman Khan will likely know his fate this week.Seeking an acquittal of his conviction for his crash in 2002 that left one person dead and four others injured, Khan had his conviction upheld. In a lower court is now at the end of the end. As his second acquittal hearing, this before the Bombay High Court, Khan's future remains somewhat in doubt. For all the money fame and acclaim he has garnered, his fate for the next five years lays in someone else's hands .
Closing arguments concluded yesterday and now the fate of Salman Khan, along with a lot of conflicting evidence, lay in the hands of the presiding judge. How it shapes out is like this, via The New Indian Express, "It is the case of the prosecution that Salman had consumed liquor at 'Rain Bar and Restaurant' at Vile Parle before ramming his Toyota lexus car into a shop at suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002. One person died in the mishap and four others were injured.
The prosecution has argued that there were three persons in the car -- Salman, his singer friend Kamaal Khan and the actor's police bodyguard Ravindra Patil, who passed away during the trial in 2007."
Khan and his lawyer contends it was his driver who was behind the wheel and not Khan. As mentioned in my previous article, Salman asked the court to compel Kamaal Khan, no relation and is currently living in England, but the presiding judge felt Kamaal Khan would not be able to offer and new pertenient details to the case.
In its closing arguments, the prosecution reiterated its desire for Khan to get the full 5 year jail sentence that the lower court had given him. This from Hindustan Times, "Public prosecutors Sandeep Shinde and Purnima Kantharia had in their arguments earlier said the actor was drunk at the time of the incident and his breath smelt of alcohol even when he was brought to the hospital for medical check-up the next day."
