Mark Hamill Talks Luke Skywalker Changes from ‘Return of the Jedi’ to ‘Force Awakens’

Spoiler Alert: In case you have been under a rock for the last few months than you should know that Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens is almost here. The promo material is everywhere. However one key figure is missing from trailers and posters. Besides for a cloaked figure and a voice over, there has been no sign of Luke Skywalker. Now, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill is opening up about his role and how Luke has changed over the decades since Return of the Jedi. Hamill is also teasing his return for Episode 8. Could Luke have moved towards the dark side of the force?

It looks like Luke Skywalker is going to be going alone at some point in the film. Hamill opened up about filming on Skellig Michael Isle, hinting at solo scenes, telling Empire (via Slashflm):

“It reminded me of when I was in Tunisia on the salt flats. If you could get into your own mind and shut out the crew and look at the horizon , you really felt like you were in a galaxy far, far away. I had that same wave of emotion happen to me when I was on Skellig Michael in Ireland. I wasn’t anticipating it.”

When we do see Luke Skywalker we can expect some changes, besides for the beard as Hamill added:

“Obviously you’re seeing him in a very different time in his life. There are lots of surprises in this movie. You’re going to love it.”

Whether that change is a shift to the dark side of the force or not is still to be seen. However, dark or light it is looking like we will be seeing plenty more of the farm boy turned Jedi in the future. Hamill seemingly confirmed his return to franchise for Episode 8 on Twitter, writing:

“Last shaved on 10/22 after final day of my 2nd #TheFlash (which airs 12/8 #XmasTrix), just in time for Ep VIII-whew!”
