Spoiler Alert: Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens is just around three weeks away and fans can not wait to learn about the film’ villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Some fans even think that Ren is really Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) thanks to Skywalker's absence form promo material. Other theorize that Ren is a descent of Skywalker because of his seeming obsession with Darth Vader. Now film director J.J. Abrams is opening up about Luke’s absence. Driver is also speaking about the motive of Ren and how he is not a villain in his own eyes.
J.J. Abrams recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where he addressed the lack of Luke Skywalker in the promotional material:
“No one forgot about him!. We were hoping people would care, but there are a lot of things that are not on the poster, as busy as the poster is. Certainly Luke is a very important aspect of the story.”
Fans might still be arguing about whether or not Kylo Ren is Luke Skywalker, one this is for sure. He is definitely not Darth Vader Jr. According to screenwriter, Lawrence Kasdan, Kylo Ren is definitely not a Darth Vader copy cat, telling Empire (via Slashfilm):
“There’s never been a character quite like the one that Adam plays.”
Adam Driver himself doesn’t see Ren as a villain at all, but a hero in his own mind, telling the publication:
“When they think their actions are morally justified it makes them dangerous and unpredictable. There’s no level they won’t go to accomplish what they’re after. I never thought of the character as an evil person.”
